WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE SPICE

Saffron (crocus sativus) comes from the dried stigmas of the purple saffron crocus and it takes up to 250,000 hand-picked flowers to make just one pound.
Saffron dates back to ancient Egypt and Rome where it served in perfume, dyes and food.
One pound of Saffron runs $400.00 - $800.00 USD, but in times past sold as high as $5,000.00/pound.
