Goat Farming

The sheep is golden hooves animal. The ever-increasing population pressure and shortage of food have diverted the attention of farmer community towards cash crops. The barren lands have been brought under cultivation, which has resulted in the shortage of meadows. The shortage of food is making sheep rearing difficult.The increase in this business is negligible at national level. The rearing of sheep is an important national issue.The breed, food, management and marketing are crucial factors to make rearing of sheep business profitable.The animal science has devised such measures and methods through which sheep rearing can be converted into profitable business.The goat is called the poor man’s cow. The people who cannot afford rearing of cow or buffalo meet their household need of milk through rearing of goats.The goat milk has less fat percentage. So its milk is useful for children and patients. The goat meat has better taste than sheep meat. Although the goat and sheep are sensitive animals to weather conditions but still they are found everywhere. they are found from deserts to very cold regions of the world.
The production of sheep and goat in Pakistan can be divided into following geographical regions:

  • Northern High Altitudes

  • AJK, Swat and Kaghan

  • Northern Grass Lands

  • Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar, Rawalpindi districts

  • Farm Lands

  • Whole Punjab and some areas of Sindh

  • Central Western

  • Kohat, D.I.Khan, Mianwali, Muzafargarh Zobe, Loara Lai and D.G.Khan
  • South Eastern

  • Cholistan, Dadu, Thatha, Lasbela, and other deserts.
  • Western High Altitudes

  • Districts Quetta, Kalat, and Makran of Balochistan.
